Gunnison County does not operate District Court from a separate building. Gunnison District Probation Context

Gunnison County is in Colorado's 7th Judicial District with Delta, Hinsdale, Montrose, Ouray, and San Miguel counties. The probation page describes district administration in Montrose and offices in Delta, Gunnison, Montrose, and San Miguel courthouses. District-wide staffing includes a chief probation officer, probation supervisors, probation officers, a victim services officer, and support staff.

The 7th Judicial District implemented Drug Court in Montrose County in 1999 and later expanded it to Delta, Gunnison, and San Miguel counties for non-violent drug offenders willing to undergo treatment and close monitoring. Gunnison County Lower Courts

County Court records share the Combined Court location with District Court, but they cover a different slice of the docket. County Court handles misdemeanors, traffic infractions, protection orders, small claims, civil cases under $25,000, and felony complaints before they move to District Court. Appeals from County Court may go to District Court.

City of Gunnison Municipal Court is separate and sits upstairs in the Municipal Building in City Council Chambers. It operates under Judge James R. McDonald and Municipal Court Administrator or Court Clerk Laura Buffington. The court generally meets twice a month on Wednesday afternoons, hears arraignments first, then pre-scheduled trials, and allows remote observation by Zoom registration. Remote arraignment can be requested in writing by email.

Gunnison District Court Appeals

District Court decisions generally appeal to the Colorado Court of Appeals, with the Colorado Supreme Court serving as the court of last resort. Water matters follow Colorado's special water-court structure, with appeals moving directly to the Colorado Supreme Court under the state water-court system.
