Gunnison County Booking Process
The inmate handbook says classification, housing area, and privileges are usually determined initially by a deputy within 72 hours of arrival, with later moves as space allows. Classification level affects housing and privileges. Staff may monitor inmate communications, including phone calls, visitation, mail, intercoms, and ordinary conversations, except privileged attorney communications.
Booking records and jail roster records are not the same as the full criminal case file. Visits are approximately 20 minutes. Staff will not wake an inmate for a visit. Inappropriate dress, emergent facility needs, or rule violations can lead to cancellation or suspension.

Personal calls are monitored and recorded, while verified attorney calls are not. Facility phone time is limited to 15 minutes, and phones may be turned off during meals, cleanup, lights out, or security needs.

Gunnison County Commissary Money
Money for calls, books, video visitation, commissary, and bail deposits can be placed through InmateCanteen / Team3, which Detention Services links as the official vendor. Commissary orders must be completed by lockdown Sunday night and are delivered weekly on Thursday when roads permit. Friday delivery may occur when weather or holidays affect the schedule, a practical point in mountain winter travel.
The handbook states maximum commissary spending is $100. Unauthorized commissary trading or barter is prohibited. Medical and mental health care requests use medical kite forms during medical rounds or kiosk requests when needed. Emergencies should be reported to a deputy or sergeant by intercom, and grievances are submitted by KITE through the kiosk.
Medical access is described in practical terms in the handbook. A nurse comes one to two times per week, a mental health nurse two to three times per week, and a mental health therapist three to four times per week. Patients are seen whether or not they can pay, but fees may be billed to the inmate account for outside care, transport, prescriptions, and PRN medications. Programs may include Alcoholics Anonymous and church services depending on classification.
